Benefits of Using a Mobile Windshield Replacement Business

If you have a large crack in your windshield, then it is wise to think about having your windshield replaced by a professional as soon as possible. If your local windshield replacement business offers mobile repairs, then you should take advantage of this service. There are a few unique benefits that mobile repairs can provide.

Allows Adhesive to Cure

There are a wide variety of adhesives that can be used to secure the edge of the windshield to the gasket. Extremely strong adhesives are needed to seal the glass in place. One thing that almost all windshield adhesives have in common is the fact that they need time to cure. While there are fast-curing varieties, these adhesives require the use of a two-part urethane material. Two tubes of adhesive and a gun must be utilized to mix the two parts of the urethane together as they are smoothed along the gasket. While this material will cure quite quickly, you will still need to wait between 30 and 60 minutes after the repair is completed before you can drive away.

Some windshield repair businesses will not use quick-drying adhesives to secure windshields in place. The two-part adhesive is often more expensive and more difficult to use, and it requires the special application gun. These are all reasons why a one-part urethane adhesive may be used instead. This adhesive material will have a cure time that depends on the outdoor temperature and the relative humidity at the time of use. However, the longer you allow the adhesive to dry, the more stress the windshield will be able to endure. For example, if the windshield is repaired when the temperature is 70 degrees Fahrenheit and the outdoor humidity is 75%, then the windshield will be able to withstand 100 pounds of pressure per square inch within about six hours. If the humidity is around 25%, it will take about eight hours to withstand the same amount of pressure.

In general, it will take between three and forty-eight hours for your windshield to withstand a full 250 pounds per square inch of pressure. This is true unless temperatures are below 50 degrees, and then curing time will take a lot longer. You will likely be advised to let your car sit at least overnight to allow for substantial curing. You may not be able to do this unless you invest in a mobile service where the windshield is fixed at your home.

Keeps You Safe

If you invest in a mobile repair and make arrangements for a replacement windshield as soon as you notice a large crack in the glass, then the timely repair will ensure your safety. Otherwise, you will need to drive to a windshield replacement business. Driving with a damaged windshield is not a good idea. Your windshield does a variety of things to keep you safe while you drive. During an accident, the glass breaks into a spider-web pattern, but the glass will stay in the frame. This helps to keep your body in the vehicle if it comes into contact with the windshield. If the windshield is already cracked, however, it may not be structurally sound. This can cause the glass to break away from the windshield. You may then be ejected from the vehicle or sustain injuries from cuts.

Also, the windshield helps to support the upper frame of the car so the roof does not get crushed inward during an accident and injure you or a passenger.

Since a cracked windshield can cause safety issues, it is much better to simply not drive your car, even to the glass repair specialist. Try to work with a mobile repair or replacement business instead, if this is possible. Find out here some further information about windshield replacement.
